First, try 84 times and fail. Then run a 100k and double marathon on consecutive weekends 1-2 weeks before the race. Eat a pasta dinner, followed 3 hours later with a Big Mac and 3 airplane shots of Glenlivet. It's easy to tell yourself that you'll regret forever not giving it your all when it's mile 22, but what about at mile 3? 3:57:35, I luv Yakima!
Now if I can just figure out how to shave 30 seconds off per mile and BQ...
